Social Psychology

Welcome to the Department of Social Psychology

Social Psychology is the “scientific attempt to explain how the thoughts, feelings, and behaviors of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of other human beings” (G. Allport, 1954).

The Department of Social Psychology at Leipzig University is particularly interested in ...

  • intragroup and intergroup processes
(e.g., social influence, collective action, and intergroup conflicts)
  • motivated social cognition
(e.g., basic psychological needs and impact of threat)
  • social psychology of the environmental crisis
(e.g., electric mobility, social psychological responses to climate change, and determinants of pro-environmental innovations)
