Social Psychology

Welcome to the Department of Social Psychology

Social Psychology is the „attempt to understand and explain how the thought, feeling, and behavior of individuals are influenced by the actual, imagined, or implied presence of others.“ (G. Allport, 1954).

The Department of Social Psychology in Leipzig is particularly interested in...

  • intragroup and intergroup processes
(e.g., social influence, collective action, intergroup conflicts)
  • motivated social cognition
(e.g., basic psychological needs, impact of threat)
  • social psychology of the environmental crisis
(e.g., determinants of pro-environmental innovations, electric mobility, social psychological responses to climate change)
